An All-Day Free Music Event To Celebrate The Universal Language Of Music!

It is time again for the annual Fête de la Musique, a free event dedicated to live music for all. The big day will take place on Saturday, the 17th of June 2017 in Newtown.

The Alliance Française of Johannesburg, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), the Market Theatre Foundation and Bassline Live, with the support of Total South Africa, are proud to announce the 6th edition of the Fête de La Musique. Through this event, musicians and bands, whether professionals or amateurs, are encouraged to perform, entertain, express themselves, and never stop generating music for future generations. Last year, more than 8,000 people gathered in Newtown to enjoy the 5th Fête de la Musique in Johannesburg.

Once again, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, Newtown will host talents on 4 open sky stages. On theses 4 stages, there will be styles of music for every taste. Newtown will come alive as visitors enjoy the live music and will be turned to a pedestrian zone for the duration of the event.

This 2017 edition will once again showcase some of today’s best French and international acts and South African’s favourite established and emerging talents. It will be fun and exciting, in a safe and inclusive atmosphere that brings communities together.

The Fête de la Musique welcomes everyone, from novices to connoisseurs, who will enjoy free music as well as the diversity of Newtown, a vibrant and fast-changing inner city neighbourhood. Comprehensive security arrangements, a safe parking, food area, restaurants and bars will mean that everyone can make the most of this popular, free music event. It is happening in few weeks’ time and it is our great pleasure and privilege to share the line-up with you.
